Privacy Policy

Last updated: 25 October 2026

This Privacy Policy explains what personal information ExamEssay (“we”, “us”) collects when you use examessay.com (the “Site”), why we collect it, who we share it with and the choices you have. By using the Site you agree to this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site.

1. Who we are

ExamEssay is an online library of study documents (lecture notes, essays, case studies, research papers and similar material) shared by students. The Site is operated from India by Jigar Soni, trading as ExamEssay. For any privacy question or request, email [email protected] or [email protected].

2. Information we collect

Information you give us

  • Account details: your email address and password when you sign up. Your password is stored only in encrypted (hashed) form. We give you a random public name (for example “BrightOwl427”) so your email stays private; you can change it.
  • Profile details: the public name and short bio you choose, and the subjects you follow.
  • Documents you upload: the files themselves and the details shown with them (title, description, subjects, tags).
  • Messages: what you send through the contact form or by email (your name, email address and message).
  • Email choices: whether you agreed to receive news and offers, and when.

Information collected when you use the Site

  • Purchases and memberships: which documents you bought or unlocked, your membership plan, its status and renewal dates, and the amounts paid. Payments are handled by Dodo Payments (see section 5); we never see or store your card or bank details.
  • Activity used for recommendations: the searches you make and the documents you open while signed in, so we can suggest relevant documents on your dashboard.
  • Account security: the date and time of each sign-in, a short description of the device and browser used, the IP address and the country it comes from. We use this to send you a login alert and to protect your account.
  • Technical information: like any website, our servers and our network provider process your IP address and browser details to deliver pages, keep the Site secure and work out your country so we can show local prices.

We do not use advertising trackers or third-party analytics tools on the Site.

3. How we use your information

  • To create and run your account, and to give you access to the documents you bought, unlocked or uploaded.
  • To process purchases and memberships through our payment provider, and to keep the records the law requires.
  • To send you emails you need, such as account, sign-in, purchase, membership and upload notifications. You can switch most of these off under My Profile → Settings → Emails.
  • To send news and offers, but only if you agreed. Every such email has an unsubscribe link.
  • To recommend documents based on the subjects you follow and what you search for.
  • To review uploaded documents, describe them and make them searchable (see section 4).
  • To keep the Site secure, prevent fraud and abuse, and enforce our Terms of Use.
  • To answer your questions and requests.

4. Automated processing of documents

When a document is uploaded, we use an AI service provider to read its text, suggest its title, description, subjects and tags, and build a search index so that relevant passages can be found. This processing runs on our provider’s infrastructure on our behalf. It is about documents, not about you, and we do not use it to make decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects on you.

AI Teacher. When you ask the AI Teacher a question, we send your question, together with relevant passages from documents in our library, to our AI service provider, which writes the answer on our behalf. If you add a photo, your browser first makes it smaller, then the photo is sent to our AI service provider only so the text in it can be read. We do not keep the photo: we save only the text read from it. Your questions, that text and the answers are saved in your account so you can see them again under My Profile → AI Teacher. Other members cannot see them. Please don’t include personal details, such as your name, student ID or contact information, in your questions or photos. Answers are generated automatically and may contain mistakes, so check important points against your course materials.

5. Who we share information with

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with the service providers that help us run the Site, and only as much as they need:

  • Dodo Payments, our merchant of record, which processes payments, calculates tax, issues invoices and manages subscriptions. Dodo receives the details you enter at checkout and handles them under its own privacy policy.
  • Our infrastructure and AI providers, for our domain, network delivery and security, file storage and AI processing.
  • Our web host, which hosts the Site and our email.
  • Google Fonts, which serves the fonts used on the Site; your browser connects to Google’s servers to load them.

Other members can see your public name, bio and the documents you uploaded, but never your email address. We may also disclose information if the law requires it, to protect our rights or the safety of others, or as part of a sale or reorganisation of the business.

6. Cookies

We use only the cookies the Site needs to work: WordPress cookies that keep you signed in, and a small “dstore_li” cookie that tells the Site you are signed in so it shows the right pages. The checkout pages run by Dodo Payments may set their own cookies. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.

7. How long we keep information

  • Account information is kept while your account exists.
  • Purchase and payment records are kept for as long as tax and accounting laws require, even after an account is closed.
  • Uploaded documents stay in the library until you ask us to remove them or we remove them under our Terms of Use.
  • Contact messages are kept as long as needed to deal with your request.
  • AI Teacher questions, the text read from photos, and answers are kept while your account exists. You can ask us to delete them at any time.

8. Your rights and choices

You can update your public name, bio, subjects and email choices yourself in My Profile. You can also ask us to give you a copy of your personal information, correct it, or delete your account and the personal information linked to it (we may keep records the law requires). Depending on where you live, including under India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and the EU/UK GDPR, you may have further rights, such as objecting to or restricting certain processing, withdrawing consent and complaining to a data protection authority. To make a request, email [email protected]. We will reply within 30 days.

Grievance contact: if you have a concern about how we handle your personal information, write to Jigar Soni at [email protected].

9. Children

The Site is meant for people aged 18 or over. Younger students may use it only with the consent and supervision of a parent or guardian. If you believe a child has given us personal information without that consent, contact us and we will delete it.

10. Security

We use HTTPS encryption, encrypted passwords, private storage for document files and limited access for our team. No system is completely secure, so please use a strong password that you do not use elsewhere.

11. International transfers

Our service providers may process information in countries other than yours, including India, the United States and the European Union. When this happens, we rely on their contractual and security commitments to protect it.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows when it last changed. If the changes are significant, we will tell signed-in members on the Site or by email.

13. Contact us

Questions or requests about privacy: [email protected]. Everything else: [email protected] or our Contact page.
